Generalizations

Generalizations are succinct, one-word descriptions of your starting character that offer bonuses and can serve as foundational blocks for a character’s role-playing concept. While every individual is unique, it’s common for people to quickly categorize others based on initial impressions. At a glance, you might label someone as “strong” or “bulky.” Upon hearing someone speak, you might think “intellectual” or “stubborn.” After observing someone briefly, descriptors like “flexible” or “intolerant” might come to mind. These snap judgments might not accurately reflect a person’s true character, but they serve as instant identifiers.

A generalization forms part of your starting player character’s (PC’s) foundation. However, it doesn’t dictate how you must role-play that character.

The Game Master (GM) may either allow you to choose a Generalization or instruct you to determine it randomly, referencing the chart provided.

Typically, Generalizations bestow upon a character:

  • A one-point increase to an Aspect
  • A Skill (with a potential Specialization)
  • An Advantage

If a Skill is awarded, you also have the opportunity to select a Specialization linked to that skill, if available. Specializations are elaborated upon in the Skills chapter.
