Royal Duelist
In Areast, there are strictly enforced laws that control dueling, compiled into volumes of text known as the Codex of the Duel. Duels have been known to settle disputes, stop wars, and even depose kings. As most politicians, clergy, and royal family members aren’t trained in the art, they employ professionals to act in their stead in duels. These duelists must be licensed by one of the major Areastern Kingdoms, a position that brings a certain level of prestige to those who can find such work. Because of the legal status these individuals have in relation to the kingdom that granted their license, they must be trusted without a doubt, paragons of honor and duty.
These people are known as Royal Duelists, and some have been sent to the Far West as agents and scouts. The Codex of the Duel has no sway in the Frontier, but the skills and reputation of these men and women make them formidable opponents to the Shadow.
